A hate-filled attacker gunned down fifty Muslim men, women and children at prayer in two Christchurch mosques. It was a coordinated onslaught born from a long-standing and dangerous history of bigotry and Islamophobia in this country.

From the dispossession of First Nations people for over 230 years, to recent attacks on migrants through proposed unfair changes to citizenship, bigotry has flowed from the mouths of right-wing politicians and across Murdoch Press headlines for decades. As a shadow Cabinet Minister, Scott Morrison reportedly saw votes to be won in targeting Muslims.1

When a politician or media outlet gives a platform to racism or Islamophobia, or exploits it for votes or profit, they legitimise hate. And hate kills.

We have to demand better. Sign the petition calling for an end to bigotry and scaremongering in our politics and media.
